The Modam Group

 

“Modam” is an active base for fashion, design and art that was founded in Tehran in 1980, carrying its work on two main grounds; i.e. Modam Studio and Modam Concept Store. The activities carried out by these two entities fall into three main categories:

   

      - Design and fabrication of products

      - Presentation and selling of works

      - Cultural and artistic endeavors

 

In general, Modam has been developed in order to identify and manifest the interjection among art, design and fashion. This is to benefit from a borderless outlook in designing and bestowing products that, relying upon their individual approach, can help merge design with its deserving cultural status relying upon their individual attitudes. This is mainly due to Modam’s belief that in the consuming society today, commodities have transformed into media. Hence, not only products can be the media communicating a certain stream of thought, but also can they help spread the thought widely due to their presence in the daily lives of the people.

In addition to providing for the need and quality, Modam seeks to create experience and opportunity in design and production of its works. Thus, commodities are considered as cultural goods, just in the same manner that Modam’s target audience are considered to be of a certain cultural personality that leads them to make their purchases in a smart manner: they can buy less and have more free time in order to elevate their lifestyles.

 

The Designers and Co-Workers

 

Studio Modam is standing on the shoulders of academically well-trained and experienced individuals from different applied arts and design disciplines and orientations. Hence, the participatory activities of the Studio are carried out by fashion and design experts, idea developers, product and service designers, illustrators, visual artists and applied arts experts and other related professionals. They work together in an interdisciplinary environment to achieve a significant applied definition teamed up in one single group.

 

The Design Process

 

Designing starts from the scratch, when the goal is set, the meaning is expressed and the idea is created based upon a clear cut notion and objective. In every such process, individuals with various views and expertise lead the design process in the desired direction. When this stage is completed and processed, the designs are ready to be executed and produced so that they gain the standards to be sold at the Concept Store. Prior to this, they will be subject to meticulous trials and are enhanced in order to let the design goals emerge by using the finest possible quality of materials. Therefore, Modam Studio is independent at the entire designing stages. In terms of visual structure, the Studio’s designing approach has commonalities with minimalism. In terms of design techniques, it is faithful to the principles of anti-consumerism through observing the needs of the end-users and covering them in a vast arena of wants, tastes, minimalism, and insuring the quality and transmutability. The design process at Modam Studio is participatory and a result of team work.     

  

Other Activities

 

In addition to design and fabrication of the main products by Modam Studio, education, research related to the design world, service design, graphic design, strategic design and management,publicity, planning and organizing events, and cooperation with the higher-end selected collections can be listed as Modam’s sideline activities.

 

The Equipment

 

In addition to its ultimate human resources and capitals specialized in design, Modam is a studio that is equipped with clothes fabrication tools. Therefore, it is independent at all different stages of production, and completes its design department with implementation and production. The Studio is also a proper location for holding different specialized training sessions that provide Modam’s co-workers with a chance to experience and enjoy the facilities at a real fashion and design studio.

The Target Audience and Mission

Modam seeks to communicate and present products to the audience that do consider a design and the mindset behind that a worthwhile event, and is looking for leaving an impact as a result of a different, yet minimalist outfit. Those who, regardless of their age groups, are inclined to experience, creating culture and supporters of cultural, artistic streams.
